Usage
Use of the backcountry airstrips across the State of Utah requires that pilots adhere to the following rules and regulations that may vary from airstrip to airstrip.
General backcountry airstrip restrictions:
- The use of Utah's backcountry airstrips is generally limited to private, non-commercial, recreational use. Any other use may require permits from the land owners or managers.
- Please review the airstrip information on the UBCP Database prior to use if your intended use is other than listed above. When in doubt, please contact the UBCP Board at 385-220-5313 for further information. Furthermore, pilots are cautioned to exercise extreme caution as the airstrip conditions may differ from what is reported or recorded on the UBCP database.
- As always, pilots are urged to submit Airstrip Condition Reports to help inform future pilots of known conditions.Some of Utah's airstrips have even more restrictions. Below are a few of the more notable ones:
Fremont Island (Fremont Island Lower 1UT and Fremont Island Upper 2UT) Restrictions:
- Open for non-commercial, recreational use.
- Aircraft operations limited to the two established airstrips only.
- No fires of any kind are permittedNo fireworks or explosive items.
- No discharge of firearms or hunting.
- No camping or other overnight use.
- Taking any plant, mineral, wildlife, or any other objects is prohibited.
- No motorized vehicles (except aircraft on designated runways).
- No items such as geocaches, land art, etc may be placed on the island.
- Commercial guided tours are allowed through a permit through the DNR.
- Any commercial filming or photography require permits through the DNR.
Mexican Mountain Restrictions:
- As the airstrip is located in a wilderness area, general wilderness restrictions apply.
- No drones, motorized or wheeled vehicles can be operated at or near the airstrip.
