All Airstrip Reports

Roy Evans visited Locomotive Springs 6 years ago in a PA11 with 8.00 tires

Airstrip is in good condition. Be weary of bushes with semi-flexible thorns near the intersections of the two runways. Runway surface hard packed and smooth for a majority of the usable length on both runways.

11/29 is clean and smooth, 18/36 is bumpier and has plants up to a foot tall growing throughout it. Parking area is ok, some ruts, plants, and a bit of gravel on it but ok with a nosewheel.

Overflew airstrip. Appears to be in good condition. No major ruts or rocks on landing surface. Still working on the legalities of the airstrip.

Runways are in great shape, including the section to the south overlook. The windsock is shredded though and needs to be replaced.

Did not land but did a low pass. The strip looks like it's in great shape and has seen recent traffic.

Stopped in for a picnic. The runway and parking areas are in great shape. Leaves are just starting to turn.

Both runways are smooth and dry. Windsock and signs are still in good shape. However, someone fairly recently seems to have liked the dragger that we took out there, because it has been dragged off. I flew the roads and other spring areas to see if I could spot it from the air but no luck. The drag marks were still pretty fresh so I think it was done pretty recently. Also, very little dust was kicked up on landing or takeoff.

Prefer landing NW if possible, touching down as noted beyond the intersecting road. Dusty the day I was there. Two other C180’s came in while I was there. Didn’t have time to explore. Maybe next time. Other than being right next to a highway, this is a fine strip.

I had a great time camping here in 2018, on the west side of the runway among the tamarisk and partly under a large cottonwood. With more rain this year, the parking/camping areas are overgrown more than last year. Still a great strip. Landed 14 and took off 32. Strip is flat. When taking off 32 there is slight rising terrain on rwy centerline, but easy to follow the river upstream to avoid. Work day made a big difference. Thanks to all.
